Honda Jazz - front-wheel drive B-class hatchback. The fourth generation of the model was presented in October 2019 at the Tokyo Motor Show under the name Honda Fit, and then at a special event in Amsterdam. Simultaneously with the basic five-door, a version was also presented Crossstar with ground clearance increased from 136 to 152 mm.
The company noted that when creating the model, they were guided by the Japanese principle "Yoo no bi", which is aimed at revealing beauty in everyday objects. “I did this by minimizing unnecessary features and simplifying the exterior lines to provide a car that has a friendly fresh look, complete with a comfortable and practical interior,” said car designer Baek Jongkook. At the same time, the car retained the key design features of its predecessor, namely a short hood, a long roof and a visually shifted cabin forward.
The “Yoo no bi” philosophy continues in a minimalistic yet practical interior. The front fascia includes a thin instrument panel without the effect of a visor that limits the field of view. The media center works with the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto apps. The Honda Sensing safety system with adaptive cruise, lane monitoring and auto-braking is standard equipment along with ten airbags.
The fourth-generation Honda Jazz received a new Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) hybrid system, in which two electric motors help the 1.5-liter gasoline engine (instead of one in the previous generation hybrid modification). The e:HEV powerplant produces 109 hp. and 253 N•m. The new Jazz accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 175 km/h. At the same time, fuel consumption in the WLTP test cycle is declared at the level of only 4.5 l / 100 km for the combined driving mode.
The hatchback offers three driving modes, changing imperceptibly for passengers. In Engine Drive mode, the gasoline engine (97 hp, 131 Nm) is directly connected to the wheels via a lockup clutch. In Hybrid Drive mode, the internal combustion engine powers the electric motor-generator, which, in turn, supplies energy to the traction electric motor (109 hp, 253 Nm). Finally, in EV Drive mode, the lithium-ion battery directly supplies power to the electric motor.
In most urban driving conditions, there is an automatic switch between EV Drive and Hybrid Drive. For movement on high-speed highways, an internal combustion engine is mainly used, and an electric motor helps it with intense accelerations.
Instead of "traditional" transmissions, the Honda Jazz features an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (e-CVT) with a fixed gear ratio. Such a system is characterized by a smooth transmission of torque with a linear feeling of acceleration in all driving modes.
Honda Jazz is produced in Japan.
