Honda CR-Z - The debut of the model for the European market took place at the Geneva Motor Show in 2010. The design of the car was stylized as a coupe, although in fact the Honda CR-Z is a three-door hatchback with a 2 + 2 seating formula. The rear two seats are designed for short passengers. In many ways, the model repeats the well-known Honda CR-X in the 1980s. It is noteworthy that the three-door became the world's first hybrid with a six-speed manual transmission.
The power plant of the CR-Z consists of a 1.5-liter gasoline hatchback engine inherited from the Brazilian version of the Honda Jazz hatchback, and a 14-horsepower electric motor powered by nickel-metal hydride batteries. Together they produce 124 hp. and 174 Nm of torque. When starting off, only the internal combustion engine is used, the electric motor is connected already while driving. The degree of its assistance to the gasoline engine depends on the speed, gear, position of the gas pedal, as well as on the selected driving mode.
The Honda CR-Z is equipped with a 3-Mode Drive system that offers the driver three driving modes: Sport, Normal and ECON (economical). In addition to the backlight color of the digital tachometer and speedometer, each of them changes the sensitivity of the gas pedal, steering wheel, electric motor output and even climate control.
The developers borrowed most of the chassis elements from Jazz and the well-known Honda Insight hybrid on the American market. Nevertheless, the wheelbase, wheel track width, and chassis setting of the CR-Z were created according to individual “patterns”. What's more, the three-door's suspension is another perfect example of the perky, sporty chassis that the brand is known for.
The basic equipment of the Honda CR-Z includes six airbags, stability control and hill start assist, climate control, a 6-speaker audio system and a USB connector. In the top version, the hatchback gets leather upholstery, music control buttons on the steering wheel, pedals, Bluetooth, cruise control, a panoramic roof, LED lighting and 240-watt acoustics with a subwoofer in the trunk.
In September 2012, the company introduced an updated version of the Honda CR-Z, which has not yet reached the Ukrainian market. The power plant of the restyled model has increased to 137 hp, and peak torque has increased to 190 Nm.
