The hatchback is not offered in the US or Japan. Therefore, if we compare the "Civics" in the back sedan and hatchback, the difference will be noticeable not only outside, but also inside. In the five-door version, for example, materials are used that are more pleasant to the touch, soft plastic, which has become even more in comparison with the eighth generation.

Differences can be found not only in the plane of design and interior design, but also at the level of chassis settings. For example, despite the fact that the steering wheel in a hatchback has become a little “longer” and now makes 2.47 turns instead of the previous 2.42, it is still incomparably “shorter” than that of a sedan, in which the rim makes 3 from lock to lock .1 turn.

Nevertheless, just like the four-door, comfort and safety have become the ideals of the current hatchback. The suspension scheme of the five-door Civic remains the same, with McPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam at the rear. But the suspension travels were made longer, which had a positive effect on directional stability on bad roads. The Civic has become more tenacious on uneven pavement with pits and potholes.

It is noteworthy that having added comfort, the hatchback has simultaneously become stronger and safer. The proportion of high-strength steel in the body has been increased, making it even more torsional stiffer. Suspension elements have been reinforced. For example, the hydraulic bushings of the anti-roll bar went to the five-door from the executive sedan. Honda legend !

The upgraded engine with a displacement of 1,798 cubic centimeters, 16 valves and a variable valve timing system has added a little power (+2 hp) and now develops 142 horsepower. Peak torque available at 4,300 rpm remains the same at 174 Nm.

The efficiency of the engine has slightly improved - instead of the previous 8.8 liters of gasoline per hundred kilometers in urban mode, it is now ready to consume 7.3 liters. For fans of a quiet ride, Honda has specially prepared two functions: ECON and Eco Assist. The first one almost completely puts the electronically controlled throttle into the “hands” of the economical “ECONOMY” mode, and the second one simply helps the driver to drive in optimal modes for low consumption with visual prompts.

The ninth Civic has lost a little original solutions both in design and in interior decoration, nevertheless, the hatchback still has something to surprise. For example, rear lights that act as a spoiler.

 Or rear sofa seats that can be raised to free up space on the floor behind the front seats. Of course, the sofa can be transformed in a more traditional way, by folding the backs and thus increasing the trunk volume to 1,380 liters (in the normal position, the volume of the “hold” is 407 liters). In addition, the back door finally got a windshield wiper.

In the “base”, the hatchback is equipped with six airbags, a system of directional stability and assistance in starting to move on the slopes. For top performances, a panoramic roof, a rear camera, color multimedia with DVD, Bluetooth, AUX / USB connectors and a subwoofer are available.

In the initial configuration, the base box of the Civic is a six-speed “mechanics”, and a five-speed automatic is offered only for a surcharge. In the middle and top versions of the Civic, by default, it is aggregated with an automatic transmission.
